CA General Exam Prep Course

A two-day course that teaches you how to use the NEC, so you can pass the California Journeyworker exam.

Tuition: $600

This course covers exactly what shows up on the California Journeyworker exam: NEC navigation, code math, and article recognition. Sergio built it after going through the same exam process himself and finding that most prep courses taught the wrong things.

The exam tests how fast and accurately you can locate references in the NEC, with some math depending on where you test. That is what this course trains you to do.

Held monthly. Available in person in Livermore, CA or live online. Both formats are instructor-led by Sergio.

Sergio teaches you how to mark and organize your NEC 2020 before exam day. This is one of the most important steps you can take before you sit for the test.

You may qualify for 2 to 4 additional hours on your exam. Sergio explains the requirements and provides instructor verification if you qualify.

Bring a soft-bound NEC 2023, highlighters, a calculator, a pen, and a notepad. California Electricians – please bring a laptop or tablet.

How do I know if I qualify for the exam? / ¿Cómo sé si califico para el examen?

Eligibility depends on your state’s requirements. California Electricians are required to have 4800 hours for residential electricians, and 8000 hours for commercial electricians. Contact Sergio directly for a consultation to review your qualifications.

No – The Handbook is a useful reference for visuals and article interpretations, but it is not recommended for exam preparation. Bring the NEC 2023 softbound codebook, no tabs – unless your state allows them in testing

No. The index method depends entirely on which keyword you choose. Select the wrong one and you will lose valuable time following incorrect references. This course teaches you to use the Table of Contents, which is how the NEC is structured and intended to be used, so you locate the correct answer every time.
